I haven't tried it personally, but i am all but sure it can be done as long as the cone kit doesn't have the voice coil and cone glued together from the factory.Originally Posted by Phil-G
There will likely be a difference in basket height between the JBL and Altec which means the voice coil former needs to attach to the cone in a different location to be at the proper depth in the gap at home position. JBL baskets are generally shallower, one visible result of this is that the surrounds are usually glued to the back of the cone instead of the front, this saves close to 1/8 inch of depth right there in that one subtle difference.
FWIW, that was an after market cone used on that particular 411, and we have no way of knowing if the voice coil assembly was replaced or if the original Altec motor bits were attached to the new cone.
Also, expect that the final product will not have exactly the same sonic signature as a stock 411. IMO, the 411's caveats reside in it's fixed parts that we can't really change.
If new 411 cone kits were available, i'm the guy that would want to try mating them up to a JBL SFG motor assembly.

Yeah definitely aftermarket (Cheap) parts IMO.. The recone itself doesn't look to be a good one either.. Look at the spider ? The glue looks like it is seeping out all around the spider..However, the seller does disclose this information.Very sloppy looking IMHO. A GPA recone would be in order here...
Reconers often have to piece together parts. No way to judge, but as said, doesn't look good.
